Jeopardy!’s Amy Schneider Wants You to Vote for Transgender Rights

Amy Schneider, the 40-time Jeopardy! champion, took to Twitter on Monday night to urge followers to vote in Tuesday's midterms, emphasizing the importance of voting to help protect the rights of transgender youth.

“The stakes are high in every election, but they're particularly high these days for trans children,” she wrote.

Schneider added, “Trans children's lives are on the line. I understand that, for many people, it may not seem that way. Politicians say that they're enacting these measures to protect children, and I think many of them truly believe that. But they're wrong.”

She explained that gender-affirming health care is “literally lifesaving medicine,” and pointed out that the majority of trans kids who get such care are more than 70 percent less likely to die by suicide.

“So when elected officials bar trans children from receiving that care, they are condemning some number of them to death. That's why I ask you, when you vote: please consider whether or not the person you're voting for will cause people like me to die,” Schneider tweeted.

In her thread about Tuesday’s election, Schneider also reminded followers to stay civil.

“For our democracy to survive, it is VITAL that we find a way to be able to live with each other. Our political opponents are not our enemies, they are our fellow citizens,” she wrote.

Schneider had a 40-game winning streak on Jeopardy! this year, making her the most successful woman and most successful transgender contestant ever on the show.
