Many people watch the Indian version of Shark Tank, a business reality program in which new companies pitch their ideas to a panel of successful businessmen hoping to receive investment.
The second season of Shark Tank India has begun, and with its success has come the viral circulation of an unreleased clip from the first season.
Laxmi Narayan Tripathy, a trans woman, makes a pitch in front of sharks.
With her company, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi wanted to provide bottled water to well-known companies like Vistara Airlines, Sodexo, and Lalit Hotels. The firm employed about 350 transsexuals, and it also actively recruited prostitutes.
Laxmi, whose ambition is to rank in the country's top 3 packaged drinking water, approached the sharks and sought an investment of Rs 1 crore in exchange for 10 percent of the company.
Laxmi Narayan further elaborated on the company's mission, saying:
"Jab manushya hone ka wajood poore samaaj ne humaare taraf se kheech diya, tab humne decide kiya... ki hum sammaan, with dignity, apne samaaj ko ek platform de jahan wo sammaan se kaam karein."
In contrast, most businesses hire transgender persons temporarily and then terminate their employment; her organization would instead evaluate employees based on their skills and not their gender.
Even though Laxmi couldn't get a deal with the sharks, Namita Thapar decided to join her business.
Thapar said, "What you're focusing on is creating employment, which is a great cause, and our HR team would get in touch with you to discuss further."
Anupam Mittal lauded Laxmi for her business model, "I love the cause and your spirit, Laxmi ji."
Laxmi Narayan Tripathy is a name often used in the transgender community. She has put forth a lot of effort for the welfare of the transgender community. She is the winner of many prestigious awards, such as the National Achievers Award, the Best CSR Initiative Award, and the Mahatma Gandhi Samman.
Earlier, she promoted the film Laxmii by appearing on The Kapil Sharma Show with Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani. This happened before she appeared on Shark Tank India.
